Halloween has always been a fun time in our family. We are not at all interested in the scary parts, but our kids do enjoy dressing up in cute costumes and getting candy.
Kenny doesn’t like to smile for pictures anymore, so we need to catch him when he doesn’t realize that we are taking his picture.
Emma and the neighbor across the street got a picture on this bench last year also.
The weather was great for trick-or-treating. A little cold, but not bad for late October.
Kenny didn’t wear his gloves for very long.
Friends from the neighborhood.
Free candy. What could be better?
Kenny got the hang of it pretty quickly and he even started to say thank you as the night proceeded.
In last years post we also had some pictures of Cousin Landry.
Kenny sat down by the girls under his own free will, so we took the picture.
This was our wagon arrangement for most of the night. Landry loves to hold Kenny, so she enjoyed having him on her lap.
Emma and her friend Ava get a picture each year.
This was in 2009 (age 3.5).
2008 (age 2.5)
And in 2007 (age 1.5). If you look they have progressed from hand holding, to an all out bear hug.
Last year’s post has a little more of the details, but each year around Kenny’s birthday we take some pictures of him wearing some hats and a coat with historical significance. This year Tammy had the great idea of heading out to Big Falls right as the sun started to set. It was a great end to a fun day.
We start with Great-Grandpa Kenny’s hat.
Great-Grandpa Maurice’s Stetson was next.
Grandpa Swany’s army jacket is still a little big.
Big Falls is a place that one can so easily forget about. It is amazingly beautiful and just a short drive away.
Kenny got pretty excited when he found a stick that he could use as a fishing pole.
This is one of our favorites.
A fall on a rock meant that the end of our time at Big Falls was a little extra sad.
The Saturday after Kenny’s Birthday we had Kenny’s friend party. It ws also Mickey themed. We had it in the morning, so we served Mickey shaped pancakes. Also, since it was the day before Halloween, it was a costume party.
We tried to get a picture of the whole group. This was ok, but we still didn’t have everyone.
As is often the case, things went downhill from there.
Cupcakes for dessert.
The after party party was held in the driveway with Mickey blowers.
Not exactly sure why the focus on the truck.
One last toot until next year.
The businesses in downtown Eau Claire hand out candy. It was on the Friday before Halloween this year. It was really busy, but there was plenty of candy to go around.
At preschool everybody dressed up for Halloween.
We opened a few gifts before the party.
This present was actually a train that Kenny’s mom and aunt played with when they were kids.
The black frosting was very black. As you look at all of the rest of the pictures you will see that the food coloring did a little coloring of Kenny’s lips.
Cake by Grandma Swany.
Kenny loved blowing out the candles. He wanted us to relight them over and over again so he could blow them out again.
Kenny turned 2 today. He is our amazing little boy and though he has thrown us some curve-balls over the last two years, we can’t help but praise God for all that our little boy is and will be. We love you Kenny and Happy Birthday.
Another fall tradition is to get some photos of Emma and Kenny in a park with a pumpkin or two. We’ve had better years than this one for photos, but the weather sure was nice this year. We still had fun.
We started out with a little bit of promise. Kenny stood by the pumpkin and had a little bit of a smile on his face.
Things went downhill quickly. Kenny was not in the mood for pictures.
We did get some very nice ones of Emma.
Kenny actually pushed the button for this picture.
After a while, we thought Kenny had cheered up a little bit.
He was still pretty sad though. Emma was such a good big sister and tried to comfort him.
We moved on to another park. It was getting dark, but we were able to get some fun pictures.
We even got a picture of Kenny smiling.
We did a photo shoot for some of our friends and we brought our children with. At the end they got in a picture with their friend Ava.
As we’ve done the last few years, we were able to make it to the Wisconsin Dells for a little family vacation. This year we stayed in a beautiful timeshare that we found on Craigslist. As is the case in the Wisconsin Dells, it is pretty difficult to avoid having lots of fun. No one wanted to leave at the end of our three days.
We get a picture of Emma and Kenny in this swing every year. If you didn’t check out last year’s post, it contains all of the earlier years.
Unlike last year, this year we waited a little too long to go to the apple orchard. You could no longer pick your own Honey Crisp apples. Thankfully you could still buy some that were pre-picked. The kids loved playing at the orchard and it was nice because we were the only ones there.
If the suspense is killing you, Emma did not land directly on her head. She was able to land on her back. Kenny did fall down.
I had never seen Kenny eat an apple before, but I hand him this Honey Crisp and he ate and ate it even as we drove home from the orchard.
It’s pretty nice to be outside in October in just a T-shirt, and it is also pretty nice to go on a walk with Grandma and Grandpa while wearing Grandpa’s hat.
A few days ago, at the Pumpkin Patch, we tried to get a great picture of Kenny in his Mickey Mouse costume. We did get some good ones, but we decided to see what else we could get.
Emma got to go to a pumpkin patch two days in a row. Yesterday it was with the family and today it was with her preschool.
October has started out pretty nice in terms of weather, so we decided to make use of the nice temperatures and go to the Pumpkin patch with some of our friends. We had two goals. One was to have fun. The other was to get a picture of Kenny in his Mickey Mouse costume for us to use on his birthday invitation. We started the Mickey pictures and saved the fun for the end. If you want to see our trip to the Pumpkin Patch last year you can check it out here.
After the pictures we could focus on the fun.
